Board Member Spotlight: Corey Roser

Board Member Spotlight: Corey Roser

Question: How long have you volunteered with the Miami County Community Foundation?
Answer: I am still relatively new to the scene. I onboarded with MCCF late in the fall of 2023. It is hard to believe that I am about to wrap up my very first year volunteering with the Miami County Community Foundation.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being involved with the MCCF?
A: Man, what a tough question… If I had to narrow it down, I would say that I truly enjoy working and interacting with so many people, from every walk of life, through the MCCF. Many of the Board members, staff, and clientele are people whose paths I would not normally cross in everyday life. The MCCF has become this “melting pot” of sorts, if you will, for everyone. It does not matter if you are a bank president, law enforcement officer, farmer, stay-at-home mom,  retiree, etc. – we are all on an equal playing field, united under one common mission, and working towards one goal.

Q: What is something you want people to know about the community foundation?
A: The one thing I want people to know about the Community Foundation is just the extensive reach it has in counties and communities. Before joining the Board, I thought the Community Foundation was only for students looking for college scholarships – [Pleasantly] I could not have been more wrong. The Community Foundation is instrumental in all aspects of the community, from scholarships to growing the next, and current generation of leaders through the MC Leadership Program, to helping with the Boomerang Sisterhood, the Foundation truly does it all.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Wait, free time actually exists?? I tend to get bored really easily so I am often engaged in a numerous amount of other activities – Free time doesn’t often exist in my life. On the off chance I have nothing to do, you will often find me enjoying time with my golden retriever or on the court playing volleyball. Likewise, I also enjoy anything creative – drawing, painting, designing, creating, etc. As an alum, I live and breathe for Purdue University, so you can always find me fiercely cheering on my Boilermakers in any sport. You will also find me cooking and baking on any given day; I love trying new recipes. Additionally, my old soul loves a good book and the crossword puzzle if given the chance.  If that is not enough, I am always trying to sneak in a vacation to any beach or tropical location that I can. There is just something about sunshine and a killer tan that makes a person feel extra good about life.

Q: What do you love most about your community?
A: What I enjoy most about the community is that everything slows down in small-town living. There is still somewhat of a sense of daily urgency, but not like that of large cities. It’s an unexplainable change of pace that is hard to describe to outsiders, unless you live it day-in and day-out. People here take the time to ruthlessly eliminate the “hustle.” I am not sure if that is intentional or in our DNA, but you see it in everything from grocery shopping to drinking coffee. Everything is done at a deliberately slower pace. I think the world could use a touch more of that all the way around.
