08 Mar Save the date for the 4th annual J.U.G. 5K Run/Walk!
The J.U.G. 5K Run/Walk began four years ago when one North Miami High School graduating senior, Jessica Monnot, wanted to give back after receiving a scholarship.
“My scholarship from the James U. & Betsy Guthrie Health Scholarship Fund has helped me to pursue my dream of becoming a dentist,” said Monnot, who will graduate from Indiana University Kokomo with her bachelor’s degree in Biology/Pre-dentistry this May. She plans to attend dental school following graduation.
Monnot has also served as an intern for the Miami County Community Foundation throughout college. She works hard each year to make the J.U.G. Run a success. In doing so, she is giving back to the Guthrie family as well as to the community.
Monnot named the 5K in honor of James U. Guthrie by using his initials. The proceeds support the Guthrie Family Community Fund, which provides grants for Miami County nonprofits every year.
This year, the 5K will take place on July 21st on the Nickel Plate Trail. Parking will be available at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s (911 W. Main St., Peru, IN 46970). Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the race will start at 8:00. All participants will be eligible for post-race prizes, and all age groups are welcome to participate. Early registration (now through July 10) is $25 and includes a free t-shirt. Participants can also register through the day of the race for $30, but t-shirts are not guaranteed.
