Celebrate Trails Day with the Prairie Trails Club

On Saturday, April 22, Community Foundation reps Corinne Becknell Lucas and Jacque Ryan joined the Prairie Trails Club (PTC) for Celebrate Trails Day. PTC was selected by the Rails to Trails Conservancy to host this signature event.

One element of event was as scavenger hunt that incorporated the installation of Our Solar System in Scale (OSSIS) which depicts the planets in a scale of 1:355 million over several miles of the Erie Trail. This multi-faceted project, which encourages exercise and emphasizes education as well as arts and culture, was installed thanks to the Starke County Community Foundation and grant funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc.

If you missed this event, don’t fret, you can check out the OSSIS Installation any time! All the inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) are within a 1-mile round trip walking distance but to reach the remaining planets, it would likely require a bicycle since Neptune is located about 8.5 miles out from the start, one way. The starting point is East of the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, just off of Main Street in North Judson.
