Pop-Up Grant Helps Curb Miami Co. Youth Hunger

The Miami County Community Foundation awarded a pop-up grant to the Weekend Meal Deal Buddy Bags Program. Schools select eligible children for this United Way program initiative and on Fridays, students are sent home with a backpack full of nutritious food to ensure they have weekend meals and snacks. Miami County has a child-food-insecurity rate of 21%, which is a higher percentage than most Indiana counties. “The program is geared toward being sure [my] child is fed. She loves the meals I make with the buddy bags -thank you,” says a parent of the program.
