Oregon-Davis Families Relieved of Student Debt

02 Apr Oregon-Davis Families Relieved of Student Debt

Oregon-Davis School Corporation families will receive some relief this year, thanks to a grant from the Starke County Community Foundation (SCCF).

SCCF representatives and Oregon-Davis School Corporation Superintendent, William Bennett, discussed the $25,000 in unpaid student fees. Bennett expressed that the school wished to help families reconcile these debts without their credit being impacted. He shared that he felt economic hardship due to COVID-19 affected many families’ ability to pay student fees, resulting in the increased overall debt this year.

This week, the SCCF reached out to Bennett to share that the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund, a fund of the SCCF, would award a $25,000 grant to cover the entire amount of student debt.

“The past year brought many unforeseen circumstances,” said Jay Albright, Executive Director of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, of which the SCCF is a fund affiliate. “We hope that these dollars provide some much-needed relief for local families.”
