04 Feb Master Gardeners of Miami County Horticultural Scholarship
Please Note: This scholarship opportunity is administered and awarded by the Master Gardeners of Miami County. The Northern Indiana Community Foundation is not affiliated with, does not manage, and does not participate in the selection or administration of this scholarship. This information is shared solely as a courtesy to help connect students with local educational opportunities.
The purpose of the Master Gardener scholarship program is to provide assistance to a high school or college student, whose permanent residence is Miami County and has declared the intent to study or is currently enrolled in an accredited college program in the field of horticulture or plant science. Related studies may include botany, landscape management, forestry, natural resource and environmental sciences.
The scholarship will be awarded according to the following criteria:

- A high school senior or college student entering or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program in horticulture or a related area.
- Award of scholarship will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion, handicap condition, or national origin.
- More than one scholarship may be awarded in any given year.
- Applicant must provide proof of college acceptance upon award notification.
- In judging applicants, the following points will be considered:

- Essay on reason for choosing horticulture or related college major
- Teacher(s)/Counselor recommendations
- Character
- Personality
- Leadership
- Scholarship (preference for students in the upper third of their graduating class)

- The applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee of the Master Gardeners of Miami County. Personal interviews may be required, as determined necessary by the scholarship committee. If the committee determines there is no qualified applicants, the award may be withheld.
- Additional applications may be obtained from the Miami County Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service Office at 1029 West 200 North, Peru, IN 46970. Applications are due in the County Cooperative Extension Office by April 1.
- The number and amount of awards will be determined annually by the Master Gardeners of Miami County.
- The scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of the scholarship committee and approval by general membership vote.
- Any member with a relative being considered for a scholarship award shall withdraw from The Scholarship Committee and abstain from voting.

The scholarship award may be used for tuition, fees, and room and board at school-operated facilities.
Scholarship payments will be made directly to the college or university after official notice of entry is presented by the award recipient or sent by the college or university.
