10 Jun Iris Family Support Center Receives Grant to Support the Prevent Child Abuse Council
The Iris Family Support Center received a grant from the Miami County Community Fund to support the Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Council.
The PCA Council serves Miami County by reducing and preventing child abuse. The council meets monthly to discuss statistics for the county, trends in the area, and then take action to respond to those statistics and trends that they are seeing. Some of these actions include educating newborn parents on safe sleeping practices, going into the school to teach students how to safely babysit their younger siblings, and raise awareness and provide resources to the community during April, which is National Child Abuse Prevention month.
The grant was used to support the coordination and implementation of the PCA Council in numerous ways. Some of these included mileages expenses for staff traveling to meetings, program and outreach supplies for community engagement activities, and other informational materials and promotional items that were distributed at local events to raise awareness of child abuse prevention initiatives and connect community members with available resources.
The Miami County Community Fund allowed the PCA Council to grow in membership and overall community impact. The Council was able to engage additional community partners and increase participation from agencies representing different sectors. These broadened perspectives strengthened collaboration and contributed to prevention efforts. This growth allowed the Council to be more present in the community, providing more resources and overall increasing awareness of child abuse prevention and available resources.
