05 Aug Healthy Mobile Market
The Food Bank of Northern Indiana’s Healthy Mobile Market was held in Hamlet on Thursday, July 25th. The event was located at the James R. Hardesty Hamlet/Davis Township Fire Station and Community Center from 10 A.M. to noon. Over 150 people were served in the short two hours it was open. Visitors in need of food assistance were able to come and enjoy shopping for fresh perishable food, dry goods, and other USDA items for free. The food was distributed on a first come, first served basis.
It was a beautiful day to serve the residents of Starke County. Corinne Becknell-Lucas, NICF Associate Director and Starke County resident said, “I was really pleased with how many people came out and took advantage of the free nutritious foods. There were fresh fruits, vegetables, rice, and beans. It was great to see families out on such a nice day.” Overall, the market was a major success.
This successful market was made possible by the sponsorship of the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund through Starke County Community Foundation. The Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund was created in honor of James Hardesty, also known as Jim Hardesty, who had a deep passion for benefiting the Starke County, his home. Another great event that wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Starke County Donors.
