23 Jan Grant Helps WarriorTech Robotics Team Compete
The Miami County Community Foundation (MCCF) gave a $5,000 grant to the WarriorTech Robotics Team of the North Miami School Corporation. The team used the grant to procure a practice field and many needed parts, kits, and tools needed to be successful. Additional grant dollars to support their efforts have also come from other funds held at the MCCF.
The purpose of the program is to challenge students in grades 7 through 12 to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Students also develop STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills and practice engineering principles.
So far, the team has had much success! They finished in first place at their initial qualifying tournament, and they also took home the Control Award. At the next competition, they placed in second and received the prestigious Think Award.
Other organizations have sponsored the team, helping to give them the opportunity to be competitive. They are hoping to advance to the super regional in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in March.
The Community Foundation is proud of the WarriorTech Robotics Team and the hard work they have put into this project. We wish them much success in the future!
