The Boomerang Sisterhood awarded $6,000 in grants to four charitable organizations during their annual grant making opportunity.

To follow social distancing guidelines, MCCF Director of Development Connie Cutler, hosted a virtual social gathering for members. Active members of the Sisterhood followed an online voting process to select their favorite organization or project.

Four finalists were chosen from a pool of six applicants. Finalists are chosen by a grant committee of the Boomerang Sisterhood and all are winners as the grant amount is based on the number of votes received.

Miami County Helping Hands was awarded $2,500 for Brighter Tomorrow ’20. This program helps those who are struggling with food, utilities, rent assistance and other basic insecurities. The need is great, and with this support Helping Hands can continue to assist families and friends who need a helping hand.

Miami County Worth Remembering was granted $1,500 to help in their production of a documentary featuring the women of Miami County’s suffrage movement. The project will highlight the local ‘Get out the Vote’ education campaign by interviewing 92-year-old Ms. Carrie Fuller, who will share her experience with voting for the first time and her friendship with noted local suffragette Marie Edwards.

Mad Anthony Children’s Hope House will be receiving $1,000 to offer temporary, minimal-cost lodging to Miami County parents and families of children receiving medical care away from home. Many Miami County families have utilized this important service that offers comfort to families during a very stressful time.

North Miami Community School’s Strengthening Families was granted $1,000. This nationally recognized family skills training program is for parents and children. Together they learn skills to build a strong family unit.
