17 Mar Board Member Spotlight: Penny Ramsey

Answer: I’ve been on the board for 10 years.
Q: What do you most enjoy about being a board member?
A: I really enjoy the people that are on the board, both past and present. I would not have crossed paths with some of them if not for the Foundation. I’ve also helped with the scholarship selection committee a few times and it really gives you faith in the younger generation when you read the applications. Pre-covid we had an event for all the scholarship recipients. It was nice to meet them and hear their appreciation for receiving the scholarships. It’s also very humbling to know how many local people have established scholarships in honor of passed loved ones, all to help our young people pursue their dreams.
Q: What is something you want people to know about the community foundation?
A: I would like people to know the general concept of the Community Foundation. Donations are invested to generate interest and dividends. The interest and dividends are returned back to the community in grants. This is how YOUR donation will ALWAYS be there to help our community. We continue to seek volunteers to be on the board. If you ever had the desire to “give back to your community,” being a board member is a great and rewarding way to do it. I am AMAZED at the generosity of the residents of Fulton County.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: HA…what’s free time?! I have a few things on my plate….Along with being on the Fulton County Community Foundation and NICF boards, I’m the treasurer for my church, shout out to Burket Bible Church, treasurer for Akron-Mentone Kiwanis Club, member of PCARET (Purdue College of Ag Research, Extension and Teaching), Fulton County Extension Board member, Fulton County Promise Indiana committee member, AND my full time job as Branch Manager at Rochester’s Lake City Bank. I HIDE when I have free time! LOL
Q: What do you love most about your community?
A: I grew up and have lived on a farm my whole life. I love the small-town community vibe. Being able to walk down the street and say “Hi” and “Hello” to everyone and it is considered NORMAL. I believe that God put each of us on this earth to do good towards our fellow man and Glorify Him, and have a little fun in the process!
