Miami-Cass REMC Operation Round Up® Fund Trust Pass Through Fund
Miami-Cass REMC established this fund with the Northern Indiana Community Foundation in December 2003.

Operation Round Up® is a national program that allows participating electric cooperatives to partner with their members to provide charitable giving funds in their local community. The concept is simple; each month the total amount of the participating member's bill is rounded up to the nearest dollar and those extra pennies go into the fund designated for distribution to those in need in the area. This fundraising program is completely voluntary.

A seven person, volunteer Advisory Board has been created to oversee the designation of funds and ensure that grants are handled wisely. The Miami County Community Foundation holds the funds until the quarterly distribution. Grant periods are:

  • First quarter: March 31 deadline for applications, with board action on the 3rd Wednesday in April.
  • Second quarter: June 30 deadline for applications, with board action on the 3rd Wednesday in July.
  • Third quarter: September 30 deadline for applications, with board action on the 3rd Wednesday in October.
  • Fourth quarter: December 31 deadline for applications, with board action on the 3rd Wednesday in January.

Typical areas of consideration for Operation Round Up grants are Cultural, Education, Recreation, Human Services, Health and Medical, Community Development, and Environmental Awareness.

Operation Round Up® funds will not be used for paying utility bills, funding political or private interests, and it does not increase energy rates.

Approximately 80% of the Miami-Cass REMC membership participates in Operation Round Up®. What may only seem like pennies a month adds up quickly. Collectively approximately $26,000.00 annually could be raised to support local organizations such as food banks, senior groups, fire departments, EMS, school organizations, etc. Together a small change makes a big difference.

Applications are available at the Miami-Cass REMC office, the NICF office and are available to download and print out as both PDF Icon Adobe PDF and Microsoft Word files.
